“Dear friends of Gambia and supporters of our association,

In March of this year, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of our association together with many friends, donors, and guests in the town hall of Bützow. Through a photo exhibition, a PowerPoint presentation, and even a live video link to the village of Labakoreh, our visitors were able to see how help for self-help can succeed in one of the world’s poorest countries.

During my presentation, I also spoke about a young woman who successfully completed her four-year nursing training. Her story stands for what we have been able to achieve together.

I have known her since her birth – for 25 years now.”

With these words, our chairwoman Monika Thomsen opened her recent appeal.

For more than 25 years, our association has been committed to education and health promotion in the village of Labakoreh, Gambia. Many children who once attended our school now stand on their own feet – as teachers, artisans, and healthcare workers.

One young graduate has now passed her nursing exams with distinction and wishes to continue her studies in anaesthesia at the University of The Gambia. This program will open new perspectives – both for her personal development and for the country’s medical care.

Since all our current funds go directly into running the school, which now educates around 130 children, we are seeking additional support to cover her tuition fees. Every contribution – no matter how small – helps make this important step possible and carries forward the principle of help for self-help.

With your help, we may be able to make this dream come true.
