Greetings from Labakoreh – Current Status of Our Projects
Lamin on site: Visit to the school and garden project
Our staff member Lamin, who is on site for us whenever needed, visited the school as well as the garden project in Labakoreh yesterday. He handled organisational matters and maintained contact with those responsible for the school and the garden.
Beginning of Ramadan: Support for the school and garden project
Today, Wednesday, marks the beginning of Ramadan — the traditional fasting period observed by Muslims. As in previous years, the teachers and the school cooks each receive five kilograms of sugar. Lamin purchased and distributed this support.
The garden project also received a sack of sugar. As around 50 women are now working there, distributing it directly among all participants would have had limited benefit. The garden committee therefore proposed selling the sugar and paying the proceeds into the community fund — to be used for seeds or necessary repairs. This collectively supported approach strengthens the project’s independence.

Development of the garden project
The progress in the garden is clearly visible. During our last visit in November, the work was still in full swing. After three years, it can be stated that the project has developed in a stable manner and provides the women of the village with reliable yields and long-term prospects.
School in Labakoreh: Operations, internship and training
Lamin also visited the children and the school team. He handed over the financial resources for the continued operation of the school to the headmistress, Fatu.
At present, a young woman from the United States is completing an internship there. For many years, an American organisation has arranged such placements for young people, who then work and assist in social institutions. Participants also learn Mandinka, the local language.
For the first time, the teachers at our school took part in a multi-day professional training programme. The instructors worked partly on site at the school and provided practical teaching methods and approaches to knowledge transfer.

Outlook
The projects continue to develop steadily. The school and the garden are operating reliably, local participation is growing, and new impulses from training and international support are expanding opportunities on site. We are proud and very pleased about the achievements made together.
